General Secretary of the Vietnam YMCA, Mr. Loc welcoming the group.

Mr. Loc is the General Secretary of the YMCA of Vietnam. Think CEO here. We arrive at the YMCA going down small roads and back alleys. The Y sits on the Saigon River. There is no pool. There is no gym. What they do have is a motor bike repair class for young men. For the women, they have a sewing school and vocational training. I believe the young women live here at the Y. Mr. Loc and staff give an orientation of the YMCA in Ho Chi Min City. They show us a powerpoint outlining a 14 point plan for the YMCA of Vietnam. These include services like HIV prevention, a medical clinic, housing for disabled children, and housing. They exist to serve their community like all YMCA's. The mulit-purpose room then becomes a dining room where the Vietnam staff graciously serve us a traditional Vietnamese meal. We are humbled.
