The unfinished exterior of the classrooms

Yesterday was our first day at the work site. Instead of putting the finishing touches on the school, as planned, we were informed that they are significantly behind schedule. The news is bitter sweet as we will be unable to finish the project while we are here. The YMCA team took the news in stride and came together to help however we could. Some of us worked in the classrooms with kids teaching English and playing games, while other painted doors, and the remainder moved huge piles of dirt to level out the floors for the new classrooms. Jeff, our fearless leader, told us a YMCA group has never worked so hard in the 12 years he has been serving the Vietnamese communities. We are proud and honored to be able to help these amazing people and they have shown us all just how glad and thankful they are to have us here.

  1. Please give Jeff a hug for me! He's good at making the most of a situation and I'm sure he will keep you all busy.

I hope you are all healthy and happy and enjoying this experience. I can't wait to hear your stories when you get back.
